a spell that evokes a spectrum of emotional responses.
"What
a great voice! Your notes jump off the tape and through the air."
-Chick Corea
Jeannie
Deva helped launch the vocal department of Berklee College of Music
where, in 1975, she earned a B.A. in Composition and Arranging.
While performing and continuing her own vocal enhancement, Jeannie
began teaching in 1976. During this period she read medical journals,
studied vocal anatomy and documented her discoveries with students
in what would later become "The Voice Studio Manual" and
"The
Contemporary Vocalist." In 1978 Jeannie Deva founded The
Voice Studio™ in Boston, Massachusetts which later became
Jeannie Deva Voice Studios and is today staffed with teachers certified
in The Deva Method.
Since
the start of her teaching career, Jeannie has taught thousands of
singers including recording artists with labels such as Arista,
EMI, Atlantic, Sony, CBS, BMI, Rounder, and Polygram.
"Jeannie
Deva is a total asset to anyone serious about their vocals. They
should get involved with her right away- the sooner the better."
- David Frangioni, (MIDI Specialist for Aerosmith, Bette Midler,
Elton John.)
In
1994 Ms. Deva became the President of Berklee College of Music New
England Alumni Association and an internationally published author.
"The
Contemporary Vocalist” is owned and used by thousands
of singers around the world. Over 300 of her articles on the voice
have, to date, been published in a variety of music magazines. Her
vocal columns can be found each month in Soundcheck Magazine and
Girlplayer.com. Along with two other prominent New York voice teachers,
(Maitland Peters, Department Chair of Manhattan School of Music
and Katie Agresta) Jeannie Deva is featured on the acclaimed video
The Vocalist's Guide To Fitness, Health and Musicianship distributed
by Hal Leonard.
